About

Murakaza neza!

Welcome to my blog! My name is Kristy Rudberg and I currently live in Rwamagana, Rwanda serving with Young Adults in Global Mission (YAGM).  I am lucky to work as the science lab manager at Rwamagana Lutheran School (RLS), an Expeditionary Learning junior and senior-high school.  While in the labs, I help to prepare experiments, to order new chemicals and materials, to add to the critical thinking-based lesson plans, and to build relationships with the students.

As a YAGM, I have been placed in my host community to learn, grow, be challenged, and walk in mutuality and solidarity with those I am coming to know and love.  My work for 11 months is not in an office, but in the birth, fostering, and maintenance of relationships with the students and faculty at RLS and the Rwamagana community at large.  This blog site is a platform that I can share what I have learned with you, so that we all can learn and grow together.

Thank you for taking time to visit my site, and please, enjoy!

Tales from my time at Rwamagana Lutheran School

Communication Difficulties and Unearned Grace

Yesterday was the 13th annual Amahoro (Peace) Marathon held in Kigali, Rwanda. Many weeks ago, I began planning to take 3 students to run the Run For Peace (7 kilometers). I purchased tickets, arranged transportation, coordinated school jerseys to wear, and bought food. On Saturday night, I happily went to bed, sure that all variables […]

Reflections for Earth Day

Before living in Rwanda, I tried to be environmentally conscious. However, it was easy to ignore the impact of my decisions.  I could throw away an empty container of Oreos into a plastic garbage bag with ease.  Once closed, it simply disappeared from my mind. I never had to face the reality of my decisions […]
